Skipping version 1.5

Cca week ago I made a PSA about skipping version 1.5 which is really going to happend. It will be for the first time this is happening but it's happening for a reason...

Skipping version 1.5

Needless to say Gatecraft is going it's own way in comparison to majority of other servers. We're using many of our own plugins and their numbers and possibilities are still raising which means maintenance of the server is still more difficult. Everything is more complicated because there is still many external plugins which are usually connected to each other and they are set-up in a certain way in order to provide unusual approach and options.

So now when is a new major update of Minecraft going to be released it means numerous changes and editing of lot of the plugins which are needed to be updated. In the worst case we need find some alternative ways or even make a new ones. Many times in the past seemingly safe update brought many hidden bugs which were revealed at the time we couldn't rollback which led to some dark times of unstable server connection and took dozens of hours to fix everything up.

Now I am going to speak for myself - in my opinion version 1.5 doesn't bring anything epoch-making for GateCraft or at least anything as big as new custom system of skills and spells which I am currently working on and simultaneosly adding to the game. So if we skip version 1.5 it will give me much more time to work on new RPG update which is - like other exclusive plugins - essential for GateCraft unique experience.

What awaits us?

Current development is targeting RPG elements in the game which means skill system in a first place and spell system later on.

After spells there will be another re-work of Chaosphere world. This will bring many PvE locations focused on quests and XP or item hunts. Biggest attraction will be exclusive items (like armor sets) but also unique places to mine resources like netherrack or quartz.  But that doesn't mean this is going to be PvE only zone. On the contrary it's going to be great place for PvP players to make their frags.

Also you can anticipate expansion of virtual inventory of GateInterface which provides interactive interface without need to install new plugins. Thanks to the GateInterface it's possible to give players ablities (magic, skills) or execute certain commands (teleportation, home setting). Interface will eventually display informations about quests in progress, your shops, owned zones and so on.

Version 1.6

But no need to panic. In difference to version 1.5 I think version 1.6 will bring some very useful elements for GateCraft - mostly horsies ;) And that's why I am going to speed up the process of updating as much as possible. Don't expect to run on the very first build of bukkit - I'm not a suicider. But I can promise you I will actively track it's development as well as development of all the other esssential plugins.

So all we have to do is pray for stable Beta builds as well as updated plugins so we can enjoy 1.6 as soon as possible. Until then keep your older version of the client.
