Woody Allen once said: “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans for the future.” Right now I feel I must have amused Him quite a lot with my announced official launch date for the update. I based it on the assumption that I would have the time—and, above all, the nerves—to work actively on the update, and I didn’t want to delay it any longer. We all know that an upgrade to the newer version of GateCraft is sorely needed.
But it also requires a lot of coding, and as far as I’m concerned… programming is not only my hobby, it’s also how I make my living. And that’s exactly the problem. For the last few weeks I’ve come home from work exhausted from coding, and the last thing I feel like doing is continuing it at home. In short, I’ve burned out and need to recharge my batteries before I can go on.
Part of the problem is also the current state of Bukkit development, or rather the support for plugins. Several different versions have been released and the (for us key) plugins are now somewhat “scattered.” Some don’t support the version we need to deploy. It looks as if the situation might at least improve on this front, though—beta builds have finally started coming out recently, which could reunite the plugin versions, and maybe we’ll even see a recommended build.
So what happens next?
…I honestly can’t even give you a replacement date right now. But I can at least promise that as soon as we have a truly stable version with all the bugs squashed, I will roll out at least the update to 1.7.9 itself, even if the new Chaosphere world has to return with a slight delay after the update.
I’d like to apologize to all fans of the GateCraft server and I hope you’ll understand the situation and keep supporting us.
