Blog: Chaosphere 2.0

Christmas on GateCraft starts one day earlier, because on 23 December 2015 the gate to the merciless world of Chaosphere will open once again.

A bit of history...

The world of Chaosphere was first opened while GateCraft was still in beta, shortly after the server updated to Minecraft ver. 1.2. This update added the new jungle biome, which did not appear anywhere in Kingdom, so it was convenient to generate a new world. Because the worlds on GateCraft are very diverse, the new “Chaos” also had to differ in some way. The novelty was the ability to establish so-called outposts in Chaos, allowing towns to spread into this world as well. Another fundamental difference was that almost “no” rules applied here. Players could simply go after each other at will, and no one worried much about murder.

Around the gate there was also a small pigmen maze with very tempting treasures. The chests mainly contained XP bottles.

However, the inhabitants of GateCraft lost the entire world in the hunt for new ones. They stumbled upon a gate to the burning hells that was supposed to remain closed forever. From this gate escaped a huge army of Wither skeletons along with a dark force devastating the world. All the heroes bravely stood in their way, but the overwhelming force pushed them all the way back to Kingdom. The only thing left to do was to seal the gate to Chaosphere, otherwise even Kingdom itself would not be spared.

So what awaits us?

A world generated to order

The new world of Chaosphere began to take shape even before the previous world was closed. Around April 2013 it existed only as a drawing on paper, but less than half a year later the first locations began to form. You read that right – the new Chaosphere is generated by a special plugin that allowed the world to be shaped exactly according to the drawn design.

New PvE locations and NPC towns

The world of Chaosphere is reopening as an adventure world, bringing players many new PvE locations and dungeons. The difficulty here will be significantly higher than in Kingdom. In some locations it will be so high that survival without proper gear and PvE combat experience will be impossible. A big lure will be rare treasures directly proportional to the difficulty of the location.

Besides combat zones, safe NPC towns will also be present, providing not only refuge but additional benefits. One major advantage of the towns will be the ability to rent houses for living. Each house will contain a bed for setting a new home.

What will no longer be possible is the founding of outposts.

New items and materials

As mentioned above, treasures will be a big draw. Especially in the challenging locations, improved rare (rare) and occasionally very unique (epic) items can be found. A new leather armor set from Endermen with a very tempting ability will also be added.

Quartz and Netherrack will also be mineable here. Both materials will be generated under somewhat dangerous conditions. How else... :)

A new rare type of item, very similar to mana diamonds, will be added. It will be the Necro Bone, which opens the path to the new skill of Necromancy.

Player vs Player

What would Chaosphere be without PvP :)

But beware! For about the first month (to be specified) after the opening of the Chaosphere world, guards will remain here to keep watch. During this time it will not be possible to attack other players.

After the guards leave, everything will return to the old ways, and nothing will stand in the way of murdering other heroes. The only certainty will be a new option to conclude non-aggression pacts within expeditions.

Gradual expansion

Despite a very long preparation period, Chaosphere is not complete. New locations will continue to be added even after the new world opens. So we can look forward to more and more dungeons and towns gradually filling the entire world. Moreover, the whole world is designed so that it can be expanded even after the base map is filled.

Already now enough basic locations are ready, and there is no reason to delay the opening of Chaos any longer.

Thanks

In one breath I would also like to thank everyone who contributed to the creation of this world. I deeply value every block placed and every line of code written that I did not have to write myself. GateCraft is no one’s full-time job, only a hobby that sometimes is hard to find time for.

I firmly believe that this investment will return to us in hours of new fun on the server.
